If the wind is blowing from the southeast, making Horseshoe Bay at Peel Island too uncomfortable, Bird Islet Sandbar is a nearby alternative. From mid-tide, a long sandbar connects Goat Island across to Bird Islet and then towards North Stradbroke Island.
We anchor in the calm water behind the sandbar. From there it is a short dinghy trip into the sandbar where you can relax and swim in the shallow water.
Or you can walk along the sandbar and across the rocks to Bird Islet and then to Goat Island. Bring some reef shoes or old runners for the walk.
